XuanYuanJian(轩辕剑)is another series of PC game by SOFTSTAR.
It is similar in style with XianJian, and it's also very popular in China.

Compared to XianJian, there are some differences as XuanYuanJian has more connections to the history events. And the theme of the stories do not only focus on love and friendship, but also on attitude toward life.

There are:
XuanYuanJian 1,2,2A,3,3A,4,4A,5 ,a SLG and two online games up to now

And XuanYuanJian 5A is said to be released at the end of this year.

I liked some of the games in the Xuan Yuan Jian series... but not all :)

Here's some ones which I've finished:

SWD1: Softstar's first RPG game. Nothing really interesting.

SWD2A: One of the best ones :) I liked that "robot" thing, lol...

SWD3: The story is not really interesting (at least for me), and those "Wang Dao" stuff just confused me. However it still has some differences to most of the Chinese RPGs, as the story starts from Europe (the hero traveled from Europe to Middle East, and then China), which seemed a nice idea. The gameplay is good too, especially the Active Time Battle (which doesn't exist in any other games in the Xuan Yuan Jian series).

SWD3E: Maybe the most interesting one for PAL fans, as it's model generally resembles PAL but still MUCH better than all those PAL imitations :) Very impressive love story indeed, and there are much less confusing stuff than other games in this series. The only bad thing is that the Active Time Battle, which has been added in SWD3, has been removed in this version :(
btw, in some time around 2006 there are several news site reported that the CEI will make a SWD3E TV drama... but this never happened :(

Thanks a lot for the URLs Whistler! :) So you mean that SWD3E is the most interesting?

just finished the SWD4A... honestly I was kinda bored when playing this sequel (as the gameplay while being totally non-challenging, all the bosses has tons of HPs which took too much time to beat, and the only thing needed is to repeat the same sequence over and over and over again  ), and I actually hated those all sorts of "theories" which are all over the dialogs... however there are still some heart-breaking moments (such as the ending) :D

btw, it seems the SWD3E drama is really going to be happen (maybe after the PAL3 drama is finished)

I wonder why it's in English though.

Pretty cool game, actually, I didn't get to launch the first one with DOSBox (It only runned in cmd.exe), but I think that it would probably be a waste of time playing the first game, since it was kinda buggy and unbalanced
The second one was a right-on game, though, and I agree with Wei, the Mechanoid was a pretty cool character, too bad I lack the knowledge of the Chinese language... :(
